IT Hiring on the Rise Throughout 2011 According to Survey Conducted by a National Finance, Accounting and IT Staffing and Consulting Firm
New job creation seen throughout 2011
ATLANTA—October 20 , 2011—The Intersect Group, a national finance, accounting and information technology staffing and consulting firm, released, today, the results of a survey conducted among Atlanta-based CIOs. This is the first year a survey has been conducted by The Intersect Group and the results provide insights from C-level executives into today's hiring trends in information technology.
The survey results indicate that companies are seeing growth. Key findings include:
- 75.0 percent of companies represented have seen increased revenues in comparison to 2009
- 70.0 percent have seen an increase in profits
"As the economy begins its slow recovery, we are seeing companies bring IT projects off the shelf that had previously been tabled," said Keith Ordan, staffing partner at The Intersect Group. "We are seeing an increase in demand for developers, specifically Java and .Net."
In an improving economy, CIOs must determine the value of increasing their investment into the IT function. As the survey results show, many companies are actively choosing to increase this investment.
- 79.3 percent of respondents planned to increase staffing in their IT Function
- 26.1 percent of respondents planned to maintain the current staff level in their IT Function
The number of positions being filled within the IT function varies among companies.
- 50.0 percent of respondents planned to staff one to five employees in the IT function during 2011, while,
- 27.8 percent planned to staff more than 25 employees, and
- 16.7 percent planned to staff between six and 15 employees
The survey found that most of the positions to be staffed in the IT function during 2011 would be staffed by the end of the third quarter of 2011 by permanent hire employees.
- 33.3 percent of survey respondents indicated that positions to be staffed would be staffed by the end of the third quarter of 2011
- 16.7 percent indicated that their positions would be staffed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2011
- And 38.9 percent of those jobs being staffed will be staffed by permanent hire employees, 11.1 percent by contract-to-permanent hire employees and 5.6 percent by contract employees. The remaining 44.4 percent of respondents indicated they would increase staffing through all of the above strategies.
"Without the participation of many of Atlanta's CIOs we would not be able to provide valuable insights to the IT community. We deeply appreciate each CIO's time to participate in the survey," said Wade Hughes, managing partner at The Intersect Group. "We plan to continue this survey annually, allowing it to serve as a benchmark for Atlanta's IT staffing trends."
