Technical Capacity Planning Administrator

The Intersect Group is seeking a Technical Capacity Planning Administrator to work remotely for our client located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Technical Capacity Planning Administrator will design, develop, configure, and maintain enterprise operating and infrastructure systems (e.g. IBM Z machine, database management systems, application integration & communications, storage, etc.) as well as installed third-party systems components to ensure reliability in accordance with user needs and technical specifications while meeting defined service level agreements.

Responsibilities of the Technical Capacity Planning Administrator                                                                                                     

  • Configures IBM Z machines in a complex environment of multiple Parallel Sysplex’s, maximizing performance of z/OS systems and applications, while minimizing risk and expense
  • Defines, analyzes and adjusts WLM performance goals of workloads to achieve satisfactory response time and maintain SLA attainment
  • Projects, recommends, and implements resource needs to support organic growth and planned software/hardware changes using SMF/RMF data, statistical modelling, zPCR and VBA
  • Identifies performance problems driving problem diagnostics to timely resolution implementation and root cause determination
  • Supports disaster recovery procedures, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of disaster recovery techniques and drives to ever faster RTO’s
  • Generates concise and compelling capacity and system KPI’s and communicates them clearly to higher levels and for executive summary
  • Enhances the automation of a large knowledge repository using SAS/MXG to process SMF & RMF data
  • Provides IBM Z infrastructure technical expertise throughout the software and hardware lifecycle including design, implementation and delivery
  • Works directly with internal and external clients translating knowledge and data analysis into impactful insight
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements of the Technical Capacity Planning Administrator                    

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred, other majors considered. Willing to accept additional experience in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 6 Years experience in system administration in a highly available enterprise environment
  • Working knowledge of JCL, SAS, VBA, SMF,RMF,WLM, and zPCR
  • Expertise in Statistical and data analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Team Player
  • Applicants with less experience may be considered for a lower level position
  • 4+ yrs Mainframe capacity planning and system performance experience, preferred
  • 4+ yrs experience with z/OS subsystems DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ, and/or Storage, preferred
  • 4+ yrs TSYS experience, preferred
  • Working knowledge of REXX and/or Python, preferred
  • MXG Codeshark, preferred
