Role Summary

The Customer Service Representative will serve as a key point of contact for patients, helping to resolve billing inquiries, explain insurance claims, and advocate for patient needs. This role is ideal for someone with healthcare customer service experience and a strong understanding of the revenue cycle. You’ll work in a call queue environment, handling inbound calls with empathy, professionalism, and confidence.

This is a high-volume, fast-paced role that requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer inbound calls from patients regarding billing, insurance claims, and account balances.
  • Review patient account history and explain copay, coinsurance, and deductible responsibilities.
  • Request and process payments during calls with professionalism and clarity.
  • Document all call activity accurately and efficiently within the system.
  • Navigate electronic medical records and insurance documentation, including EOBs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve complex account issues.
  • Maintain a positive, patient-focused attitude in all interactions.
  • Manage time effectively in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

Key Requirements

  • 2+ years of healthcare-related customer service experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable and the insurance claim lifecycle.
  • Ability to read and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Friendly, empathetic, and confident when handling sensitive patient concerns.
  • High level of professionalism and patience in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills in a remote setting.
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • Experience with ECW (electronic medical records) is a plus.
  • Gastroenterology-specific experience is a plus.
