Indirect Tax Director

The Indirect Tax Director will lead the Indirect Tax team. Reporting to the VP of Tax, this director will provide proactive leadership and is responsible for developing, implementing, managing indirect tax strategies, while supporting strategic operating goals and overseeing the Indirect Tax compliance function


  1. Provide leadership and oversight for all indirect tax matters
  2. Recruit, train, develop and mentor internal Indirect Team, as well as manage third party and legal advisors
  3. Oversee all tax audits, identify risks, solutions, and opportunities for mitigation. Lead  negotiation of  favorable outcomes and monitor and support risk analysis reviews
  4. Maintain strong working and collaborative relationships with external tax auditors, and advisors, as well as company Finance and Accounting, Legal, and Operations Departments
  5. Identify, development and implement tax migration strategies and tax planning opportunities
  6. Play an active role in the development of indirect tax planning strategies, including those related to expanding business lines and operational footprint as well as tax laws and regulation changes.
  7. Lead all aspects of Tax Compliance
  8. Provide daily tactical guidance regarding sales and use tax classifications, exemptions, and technology systems usage, ensuring the team has up to date tax expertise and awareness of tax laws pertaining to indirect tax matters
  9. Work closely with other groups to efficiently obtain required tax data and automate tax reporting processes and procedures.
  10. Assist with indirect tax due diligence for M&A including post-transaction integration
  11. Oversee indirect tax technology systems and upgrades to ensure effective use of available technology for efficient management of the indirect tax function.
  12. Other duties as assigned by Management.

Position Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance.
  2. Extensive working knowledge of OneSource, Vertex, or similar sales tax software.
  3. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  4. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  5. In-depth knowledge of indirect tax law including current indirect tax developments; understanding of key indirect tax processes and data drivers.
  6. Ability to manage multiple on-going projects in a fast-paced environment while working under tight deadlines.
  7. Experience managing a tax team of more than 5 direct and indirect reports.
  8. Experience in a complex $1B+ Multi-Jurisdictional Company.
