Staff Accountant – Capital Accounting

Role Summary
The Intersect Group is seeking a Staff Accountant – Capital Accounting to support the financial operations of capital expenditures, particularly capitalized software projects. This role is essential to ensuring the accuracy and compliance of capital accounting records and processes.

You will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of capitalized assets, supporting financial reporting, performing reconciliations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the financial integrity of capital projects. This is a long-term opportunity with growth potential in a high-impact area of the business.


Key Responsibilities

  • Track and manage capitalized assets, including capitalization, depreciation, retirements, and disposals.
  • Prepare capital and project financial reports; support month-end close activities for capital accounts.
  • Perform reconciliations and detailed analysis of capital accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and support internal and external audits related to capital expenditures.
  • Collaborate with project managers and finance teams to ensure accurate financial tracking of capital projects.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to align on project financials and reporting.
  • Identify and support process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
  • Assist with journal entries, reclassifications, and other accounting tasks as needed.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a staff accountant role.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting for CAPEX vs. OPEX.
  • Experience in a fast-paced accounting environment, preferably within a large or publicly traded company.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, large data sets) and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle Financials, SAP, PeopleSoft, or JDE is a plus.
  • Familiarity with capitalized software accounting and project accounting is highly desirable.
