Role Summary
The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for managing the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of residential properties. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance, and supporting property operations.
You’ll work closely with property managers, accounts payable, and internal stakeholders to prepare financial statements, reconcile accounts, and manage cash flow. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and enjoys being a financial partner to operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations, including prepaids and accruals
- Update weekly cash balances and ensure accuracy of cash reporting
- Analyze financial data and prepare variance explanations for internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain general ledger account balances and ensure proper coding of operating expenses
- Review vendor invoices and coordinate with accounts payable for disbursements
- Support year-end audit preparation and respond to investor and agency reporting requirements
- Maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, insurance, and taxes
- Collaborate with property managers and asset management teams to ensure financial accuracy
Key Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of property accounting experience (multi-family housing preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (flexible for strong experience)
- Proficiency in Yardi property management software
- Strong understanding of prepaids, accruals, and financial statement preparation
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned properties
- Strong communication skills and a customer service–oriented mindset
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
